Now “Creative Nude Photography” - there's something that needs a definition.   I want to explore the naked form, revel in its beauty, shape and textures.   But I don't want to reveal the nude as sexual.

I want to create artistic, almost graphical and designed images, but which have a modern sensibility about them.

I don't want to fall into a trap of nudity for its own sake, but instead try and reveal new ways of understanding the naked figure.

Part of the approach is to move beyond the old-fashioned and somewhat static view of the fine art nude photographer.   Creative images should have a life, a vivacity, a joie de vivre about them.

I'm not afraid for creative nudes to be smiling, joyous images.  But of course they may also be serious, mysterious, evocative.   They can be provocative, although hopefully not in a “come hither” kind of way.

Creative Nude Photography is also about a state of mind.   It's about develop your creative muscle - I don't have any truck with the idea that you have to wait for the muse to strike.   I think you can practice and build on ways of being creative - not just in your photography but in your everyday life as well.

Creativity lets you introduce things like mud packs, chocolate, paints and complex and intricate sets.

While a fine art photograph tends to be more simplistic in its settings and composition, creative photographs can be anything and everything.

Finally, it should be about breaking rules, while rule of thirds, compositional shapes etc., all have their place in any image, being creative also means we should be breaking the rules or throwing them away entirely.
